Illinois Teen Succumbs To Injuries From Golf Cart Mishap At Campground

(Town of West Point) An Illinois teen has died from injuries sustained in a golf cart accident at a campground near Lodi.  The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office responded to Crystal Lake Campground in the Town of West Point on Sunday around 11pm.

The 17-year-old was riding in the golf cart with her mother when they accidentally rolled 40-feet down a steep hill to the shoreline of Crystal Lake, ejecting both of them. The Club Car golf cart came to rest on its side pinning the teenager underneath. Authorities say both occupants had been consuming alcohol. Bystanders were able to lift the golf cart off the teen prior to the arrival of emergency responders.

Lodi EMS determined the teen had no pulse and was not breathing; however, she regained a pulse and her breathing resumed prior to leaving the scene. The teenager died Wednesday at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. Her name is being withheld at this time.

Authorities are still trying to figure out who was driving and piece together the events that led to the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact  Columbia County Sheriff’s Detective Sergeant David Clark at 608-742-4166 extension 3317.
