Hustisford School Board Adopts Preliminary Budget

(Hustisford) The Hustisford School Board approved the preliminary budget for the 2019-2020 school year at their meeting Monday night. The total budget document is anticipated to come in just over $7.1-million dollars.

District Administrator Heather Cramer says the district is waiting until equalized property values are released in October before officially announcing the tax levy and mill rate figures. She did say that early projections indicate that the final numbers might not to be too different from last years.

The tax levy for the 2018-2019 district budget was just under $2.9-million dollars and the mill rate was $8.90 per one-thousand dollars of assessed value. The biggest change from last year and this years preliminary document was in an increase in health insurance costs at roughly $175-thousand dollars.

Cramer says there were several factors behind the jump. Premiums went up nine-percent which Cramer says is a good number for them because in years past increases have crept into the teens. She adds that there were also several staff members who got married and their plans were changed from single to family which doubles their cost of insurance.

The school board will vote on final adoption of the budget in October.
