Horicon School District Names New Superintendent

(Horicon) The Horicon School District has a new superintendent. Katie Schwartz was unanimously chosen by the district to succeed Rich Appel who is retiring after nine years in Horicon.

Board President Meredith Strieff says through their exhaustive process, it was evident that the most highly qualified candidate to run the district was Shwartz. She adds that she understands Horicon and is going to move their children forward.

Schwartz is currently the districtโ€™s director of special education and student learning. She has worked in public education for over 20 years and has served in her current role in Horicon for seven years.

Schwartz says being superintendent of schools in the city she grew up in allows her to support their future, build off of their success, and increase their ability to be Horicon Strong. Her position will officially begin July 1st.

District officials say they are grateful to Rich Appel for the countless ways he has helped the district improve, as well as his mentoring Schwartz and positioning her for a seamless transition into her new role while maintaining the districtโ€™s positive trajectory.
