(Horicon) Horicon High School has paired with the group Hug it Forward to provide their students with an opportunity to attend a service trip this summer to Guatemala to help build schools.
With a group of 17 students and five chaperones, the primary goal is to provide underserved communities with access to quality education by building sustainable schools that are both environmentally friendly and cost-effective. Guatemala does not have a waste management system like the United States and building of these schools have that in mind.
The walls will be made out of plastic water bottles that are filled with trash. The group hopes that by building the schools this way it will help clean the streets of Guatemala while also providing an education.
The initiative will also offer an opportunity for cross-cultural collaboration exchange and deepen the bond between people from different backgrounds. The school will work alongside community members and foster a sense of collaboration with a shared purpose.
