10/25/17 – The ribbon was cut Tuesday on the latest Blue Zones-approved worksite in Dodge County. Horicon Bank was singled out for their commitment to creating a healthier environment. Blue Zones Project is a community-led, well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthier choices easier by encouraging simple changes to environment, policy, and social networks. With five locations in Blue Zones Project communities, Horicon Bank President Fred Schwertfeger said it was a natural choice to join the Dodge County initiative. Schwertfeger says the bank “has been working to create a wellness culture over the last few years [so] investing in the Blue Zones Project was a perfect fit.” Horicon Bank has had a wellness team in place for three years, setting goals and strategies by implementing creative exercise challenges to promote overall health. The bank also holds bio-metric health screenings free for employees. As part of their health benefits package, the bank provides reimbursement for fitness club memberships. The bank also supports community wellness programs and sponsors several annual run/walks, organizing three 5Ks in Fond du Lac, Horicon, and West Bend this year alone.
