High School Football Preview – Week 5

Friday, October 23rd

 

Cambria-Friesland (2-1, 0-1) @ St. John’s NW Military (2-1, 1-1) – 4pm

Cambria-Friesland jumps back into action after an impromptu week off because Husticon cancelled last Friday’s game because of a pending COVID-19 test.  Senior Cade Burmania has scored six total touchdowns this season for the Hilltoppers.   SJNWA also had last weekend off.  The Lancers are 2-1 on the season after dropping a 52-0 decision at high powered Randolph on October 9th.   Senior Donald Austin has 590 yards rushing and six touchdowns through the first three games of the season.

 

Dodgeland (0-2, 0-1) @ Husticon (0-1, 0-1) (at Horicon) – 7pm

Dodgeland enters their third game of the season still searching for their first points of the season.  Paul Scheel’s squad will try to bounce back from last week’s 33-0 shutout at the hands of Palmyra-Eagle. Senior Andrew Benzing leads Dodgeland in rushing through the first two games of the season.  Husticon jumps back into action this week after having to cancel last Friday’s game at Cambria-Friesland because of a pending coronavirus test.  Landon Hintz hit Dylan Kehl on a score TD pass for Husticon’s only score in their season opening 49-7 defeat at the hands of Watertown Luther Prep.

 

Marshall (4-0, 3-0) @ Pardeeville (0-2, 0-2) – 7pm

After three blowout victories Marshall had to grind out a 12-8 win at Markesan last Friday night.  Bryce Frank returned the opening kickoff for a 77 yard score and also had a 51-yard touchdown catch to account for all the Cardinals points last week.  Frank has scored ten touchdowns this season (5 rushing, 3 receiving, 1 kickoff return, and 1 punt return).  After coming off a two week COVID break, the Bulldogs dropped a 35-16 decision at Waterloo last Friday night. Senior QB Peter Freye has tossed 5 TD passes this season, four of them to senior Ty Westbury.  Marshall is ranked #9 in this week’s wissports.net Division 5 Coaches Poll.

 

Markesan (0-3, 0-2) @ Waterloo  (2-1, 2-0) – 7pm

Markesan makes the trip to Waterloo still looking for their first victory of the season.  The Hornets defense has been stellar the last two week, giving up just a single touchdown in each of the last two games.  Sophomore Michah Kracht leads Markesan in rushing with 183 yards.   Hayden Christian has rushed for 156 yards and two TDS in 2020.  Waterloo stayed perfect in the Eastern Suburban Conference with a 35-26 win over Pardeeville last Friday night.  Eugene Wolff has over 300 yards rushing this season, including a 159 yard, 3 TD effort last Friday.

 

Watertown (2-2) @ Reedsburg (1-3) – 7pm

The Goslings make the long bus ride to Reedsburg tonight after dropping a tough 49-24 decision at Lake Mills last week.  Junior QB Caleb Huff has thrown for 417 yards and two TDs while running for 169 yards and six TDs.  Reedsburg is 1-3 heading into tonight’s game.  The Beavers lone win this year came on October 2nd when they picked up a 41-6 home win over Sauk Prairie.  Junior QB Bryant Yankee has thrown for 313 yards and a score this year, and also rushed for 244 yards and two TDS.  Miles Raupp leads Reedsburg in rushing with 283 yards and 3 TDs.

 

Saturday, October 24th

 

Randolph (4-0, 3-0) @ Lourdes Academy (4-0) – 1pm

Game will be played at St Mary Catholic the Fox Valley

This may be one of the highest profile games in the state this weekend as a pair of unbeatens square off with 1st place in the Trailways Conference on the line in a game played at St. Mary Catholic in the Fox Valley.  Rockets QB Brayden Haffele has rushed for 325 yards and 7 TDs and also passes for 264 yards and a pair of scores.  Zach Paul has a team high 540 yards rushing and 7 TDs.  Sam Grieger has three interceptions to lead the Rocket defense.  Lourdes is led by senior QB Joshua Bauer who has thrown for 975 yards and 13 touchdowns.   He’s also rushed for 146 yards and four TDs.  Preston Ruedinger has caught 30 passes for 411 yards and six touchdowns.   Lourdes is ranked 2nd and Randolph 4th in this week’s wissports.net Division 7 Coaches Poll.

Fall River/Rio (1-1) @ Johnson Creek (1-1) – 4pm

The Fall River/Rio football team found themselves without an opponent on Tuesday when Johnson Creek cancelled their game which had been scheduled for Saturday afternoon.  A few hours later the Rebels secured a game with Brookfield Academy that will be played in Fall River on Saturday at 4pm.  Brookfield Academy had their weekend open up when Burlington Catholic Central had to cancel.  Fall River/Rio is 1-1 on the season and are coming off of a two-week COVID break.  The Rebels dropped their season opener at St. John’s Northwestern Academies then knocked off Palmyra-Eagle in OT before having to pause their season.  Junior QB Gavin Grams has rushed for a team high 161 yards and two TD.  Senior Jacob Rowe moved from wide receiver to running back against Palmyra-Eagle and ran for 153 yards and a pair of TDs.   Brookfield Academy is 2-0 on the season after blowout wins over Dominican and Kenosha Christian Life.
