Grothman on Iran War, Partial Government Shutdown

(FOND DU LAC) U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Greenbush) concedes Iran may not have been an immediate threat to the United States. Still, the 6th District Republican says military intervention was only a matter of time.

“They’re trying to enrich more uranium, they want to make nuclear weapons, and they want to wipe Israel and the United States off the map,” Grothman told Daily Dodge. “Which means (at) some time, we were going to have to deal with problems caused by caused by Iran.”

About 3,00 people have died in the war, and the financial cost is estimated at $1.2 billion a day. Grothman says dealing with Iran now will save human lives and taxpayer money in the long run.

Grothman also says he hopes lawmakers will resolve the partial government shutdown as quickly as possible. Some Department of Homeland Security employees have been working unpaid or forced to take furloughs since Feb. 14. Grothman blames Democrats for not budging on their position on funding Immigration and Customs Enforcement. (ICE)

“They don’t care if ICE is not operating, and somehow we have to get them to the negotiating table and agree to fund them,” said Grothman.

Democrats maintain that ICE needs to be reformed. They want new limits on enforcement tactics and accountability for ICE agents.
