The Watertown High School softball team is heading back to the Goodman Diamond and the WIAA State Softball Tournament after a 2-0 win over Neenah in a D1 Sectional Final at Oshkosh on Thursday night.
The Goslings scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and that’s all the offense they would need to earn another Sectional Championship plaque. Cassidy Peplinski drew a 13 pitch walk and then scored on a double by Cali Craig. Allison Howlett then singled home Craig for the last run of the game.
Watertown would only get two more base runners against Neenah starter Kyleigh Matha the rest of the way, but it wouldn’t matter because strong pitching by Craig and solid defense kept the Rockets off the board.
Craig finished her day in the circle, tossing the complete game shutout, surrendering no runs, just 4 hits and she struck out nine.
Last season Watertown defeated Sun Prairie East 3 in the State Quarterfinals before falling to Kenosha Bradford 1-0 in the Semifinals.
The WIAA Division One State Quarterfinals are now on Wednesday with the matchups to be announced at a later date.
