The Beaver Dam High School football team dropped a hard fought 20-14 non-conference game at Baraboo on Friday night.
The Golden Beavers Avery Priewe gave BDHS the early lead, taking the opening kickoff 89-yards to the house to give his squad the early 6-0 lead. Baraboo answered on their first possession as Isaac Pellen punched it on from 1 yard out with 6:27 left in the 1st quarter. The extra point gave Baraboo the 7-6 lead.
In the 3rd quarter Pellend’s 2nd one-yard score extended the T-Birds lead. Sophomore QB Eli Bryant rallied Beaver Dam late in the 4th quarter hitting Kyler Keel on a 32 yards score with 4:04 left in regulation. Bryant hit Keel on the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 14.
Baraboo (1-1) answered the score, by marching down the field and taking the lead on Pellend’s 3rd short TD run of the game with :43 seconds left pushed Baraboo back on top 20-14. A long pass play and a penalty gave BDHS a chance, but Ben Burgess picked off a Bryant pass in the end zone with :06 left to end the rally.
Bryant threw for 83 yards and a TD in relief of QB Camron Mendoza who left the game with a hamstring injury. Keel caught three passes for 62 yards and a TD.
Mendoza & Bradyn Strachota led BD in rushing with 20 yards each.
Beaver Dam (0-2) will travel to Fort Atkinson next Friday night.
