The Beaver Dam football team looks to get physical on offense in 2021 as they open up their season tonight against 2019 WIAA Division 3 state runner-up Menasha. During the 2021 alternate fall season, Beaver Dam’s defense got after it, playing physical football and forcing 17 turnovers in six games. Coach Brock Linde wants to mirror that toughness on the offensive side of the football moving to the run based “Single-Wing” offense.
“We’ve transitioned away from some of the spread stuff we have done in the past. We are really going to just trust our lineman to take care of business for us. We’ve got a lot of nice backs in the backfield so we are transitioning into the Single-Wing. Old school football designed by Pop Warner himself.” Linde told DailyDodge.com. “The kids love it and lineman love it obviously. I think its going to get us to place where I want our program to be.”
Beaver Dam returns a plethora of talent that saw varsity action during the alternate fall season and has 92 players in the program heading into the season opener.
“I think we’ve got 13 defensive players that started at least one game in the spring returning and on offense I think it’s twelve.” Linde said. “We have a lot of experience coming back. That doesn’t mean anyone is guaranteed playing time who played in the spring. Obviously if people came and watched us, or watched us on DailyDodge, they could tell that we were really treating the spring season like a spring season getting everybody opportunities trying to develop our program and use that as a spring board to this season.”
Coach Linde says that the Golden Beavers have really put in the time to get better as a football program in the offseason and is excited to see that hard work and dedication translate onto on field success.
“Our kids are bigger and their faster and stronger and their more experienced. In just a year and a half I think our program has come a real long way.” Linde said. “We want them to believe that they can do it because the coaching staff believes they can do it. Now the kids have to just go out and play with that confidence and that camaraderie.“
The Golden Beavers schedule in 2021 may be one of the toughest in the state as they will face three schools that played for state championships at Camp Randall during the last full season in 2019 including; Menasha, Waunakee, and DeForest.
Tonight’s game kicks off at 7pm and you can watch it on DailyDodge TV. Coverage begins at 6:40pm.
