Former Wisconsin State Senator Herb Kohl Dies at 88

(Wisconsin) Former Democratic U.S. Senator of Wisconsin Herb Kohl passed away on Wednesday evening at the age of 88.

Born in Milwaukee, Kohl purchased the Milwaukee Bucks in 1985 for $18 million to keep the team in Wisconsin. The former Senator of Wisconsin made it his priority to keep the Bucks in Milwaukee and donated $100 million to help construct the Fiserv Forum after selling the team in 2014 to Wes Edens and Marc Lasry.

Kohl also donated the largest private donation in University of Wisconsin-Madison history when he donated $25 million to help with the construction of the Kohl Center, home to Wisconsin basketball and hockey.

Using his own money, Kohl created the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation, which donates money for students scholarships and fellowships.
