(WAUPUN) A former staff member at Waupun Correctional Institution has accepted a plea deal tied to the investigation into inmate deaths at the prison.
Brandon Fisher, 31, entered a no contest plea Wednesday in Dodge County Court to a misdemeanor count of violating state and county institution laws. The Fox Lake man had been among eight prison employees charged as part of the wider case.
Fisher was arrested in 2024 after prosecutors initially accused him of abusing inmates. The charge he pleaded to stems from an incident in October 2023.
The misdemeanor carries a maximum penalty of a $500 fine and up to 30 days in jail. Fisher is scheduled to be sentenced May 29.
Several others charged in the case, including former Warden Randall Hepp, have also reached plea agreements.
