(Jefferson County) A former Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy was sentenced to two years in prison Friday on breaking and entering charges. Janelle Gericke plead guilty to two felony Burglary charges as well as a felony count of Attempted Burglary. The case was originally filed in Jefferson County but was transferred to Dodge County due to a conflict of interest. Dodge County Judge Brian Pfitzinger who handed down sentencing, also placed the 30-year-old on extended supervision for three years. Gericke attempted to gain access to homes without consent while off-duty in February of 2019. The criminal complaint states that the Gericke attempt to enter homes while the homeowners were attending the funeral of a family member. She read online obituaries to find the next of kin, along with the funeral date and time. Gericke was terminated from her position in the jail division in July of 2019.
