(FOND DU LAC) Two 17-year-old boys are in custody after Fond du Lac police recovered two stolen vehicles early Friday morning following a short chase and search effort.
Around 3:57 a.m., officers were called to the Comfort Inn on Holiday Lane for a report of a stolen Dodge Ram pickup. Using the city’s Flock Safety camera system, police tracked the truck near East Johnson Street and Highway 151.
When officers tried to pull it over, the driver sped off — leading a brief pursuit through the area. The chase ended a few blocks later when the truck hit a curb near East Division Street. Two people ran from the vehicle, but police quickly set up a perimeter and used a drone to search.
Officers found the driver, a 17-year-old Fond du Lac boy, near Ledgeview Lanes and took him into custody. He was taken to a hospital for medical clearance.
Police then discovered the silver sedan that had stopped near the chase scene was also stolen overnight from South Bell Street — a theft that hadn’t yet been reported. Officers found a cellphone and bank card inside that helped them identify another suspect.
Around 7:50 a.m., police arrested the second 17-year-old boy on South Boardman Street.
Chief Aaron Goldstein said both thefts could have been prevented.
“These were crimes of opportunity where vehicles were left unlocked with keys inside,” Goldstein said. “We urge everyone to take simple, consistent steps to protect their property — remove your keys, lock your vehicles, and avoid leaving valuables in plain sight.”
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and Fond du Lac Fire Rescue assisted in the response. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
