(FOND DU LAC) A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the severe injuries of a 52-day-old infant from Fond du Lac, authorities said.
Fond du Lac police were first notified of the case around 3:19 a.m. on March 17, when the infant was transported to Childrenโs Hospital in Milwaukee with serious injuries. According to police, medical staff discovered multiple rib fractures, a fractured clavicle, and a throat injury that required surgery.
The infant had initially been evaluated at a local hospital in Fond du Lac before being transferred to Milwaukee due to the severity of the injuries.
Police detectives and Fond du Lac County Child Protective Services immediately launched a joint investigation. Authorities said the case involved reviewing medical records from multiple providers, interviewing healthcare professionals, and conducting numerous interviews as new details emerged. Investigators later learned the infant had sustained additional injuries beyond those first reported.
On April 28, detectives interviewed a 25-year-old man associated with the child. Following that interview, he was taken into custody and booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail on a charge of physical abuse of a child โ reckless causation of bodily harm, a Class H felony. The case has been referred to the Fond du Lac County District Attorneyโs Office for review.
โOur detectives, officers and partner agencies have worked tirelessly on this case from the moment we were notified,โ Lt. Nick Hahn said in a statement. โOur focus remains where it belongs โ on the safety and well-being of this child.โ
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities said no additional information will be released at this time pending the suspectโs initial appearance in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court.
