Fond Du Lac County Sheriff’s K9 Iro Back On The Beat

(Fond du Lac) It’s been a long journey to recovery for a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s K9 handler and his dog, but they are back on the streets. Deputy Blaine Evans and K9 Iro returned to duty in the wake of a fatal shooting incident last year in Fond du Lac, during which Iro was shot several times.

Sheriff’s Captain Chris Randall says Iro had to go through recertification which included being around guns that were being fired to make sure he was not emotionally scarred. He says Iro showed no hesitation during his retraining.

Last October, Sheriff’s deputies were assisting Fond du Lac police during a domestic disturbance involving weapons. Iro was shot and seriously wounded during the incident. Deputy Evans was placed on administrative leave after having to exchange gunfire with 34-year-old Kyle Massie who was inside a vehicle.

Massie was wounded and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene. An investigation cleared Evans of any wrongdoing.

Randall says Iro’s recovery was a team effort between the dog and his handler.
