(Waupun) Fond du Lac County authorities and a UPS worker saved a Waupun area resident from losing just over $22-thousand-dollars in a scam. Detectives with the sheriffโs office and the Fond du Lac Police Department worked in collaboration with the UPS store in the city on the case.
Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says a UPS employee had some concerns when an elderly citizen brought a parcel into the store for shipping and alerted the UPS distribution center and local police. A detective with the police department, Vance Henning, reached out to the sheriffโs office because of where the resident lived.
Sheriffโs detectives Eric Muellenbachย and David Olig met with the individual and determined that they were being scammed into sending the package to California. The parcel contained $22,560 in cash and it was returned to the rightful owner.
Waldschmidt commended the UPS store employee and detectives for their actions. He says let this serve as a reminder that scammers will go to extraordinary lengths to take advantage of the elderly community. The investigation is ongoing.ย
