Floodwaters Recede in Columbia County

(PORTAGE) Floodwaters are starting to fall in Columbia County, bringing some relief to people in the Portage area after days of high water.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says water levels are expected to keep dropping over the next several days as crews shift from emergency response to cleanup and damage assessment.

Local leaders say the response took a wide effort. Emergency crews, state agencies and volunteers worked together during the levee incident to keep people safe and informed.

Now, as conditions improve, some roads are beginning to reopen. But officials warn drivers to stay alert โ€” some roads may still be damaged, and shoulders could remain soft until crews finish repairs.

People can check the latest road closures through Columbia County Emergency Management as recovery continues.
