(Beaver Dam) The first grant cycle opens next month for the new Beaver Dam Area Community Foundation. The foundation serves as a public charity that pools donations that are used to address local needs and invest in nonprofit groups. The foundation’s five-year goal is to have a total of $3-million dollars in assets. The donations are generally distributed from the interest on the investment. Tom Heffron, a founding member of the Beaver Dam affiliate, says the first round of grants will total between $500 and $2500 for any Dodge County-area non-profit. The grant window opens on January 13 and the deadline is February 14. Recipients will be notified in March.
The foundation is an affiliate for the Fond du Lac Area Foundation which is providing administrative support, guidance and philanthropic expertise. Heffron notes that partnering with Fond du Lac helped them get the fledgling started in months rather than years. The foundation has opportunities for tax-deductible donations to an unrestricted fund, specific designated funds, scholarships and other areas of a donor’s interest.
More information on the first grant cycle can be found on the foundations website which also allows the public to learn about how to become a donor or obtain general contact information and also lists the types of funds that are available. The website is http://beaverdamacf.com/
