Fall River Drops Five Set Thriller At State

The Fall River girls volleyball team dropped a tough five set match to Wonewoc-Center at the WIAA Division Four State Semifinals at the Resch Center on Friday morning in Green Bay. 

The Pirates (25-11) took the first two sets 25-23 and 25-17 before the Wolves got going mid-way through the 3rd set to stay alive 25-23.   Set four was one for the ages as WC survived a pair of match points to win 29-27.    The Wolves (31-2) took over early in set #5 to advance to the state championship game against Newman Catholic 15-7.

Jenna Vermillion and Hannah Dietzenbach each had 16 kills to pace the Pirate offense.  Alexa Schultz added 33 assists and Maggie Book 16 assists.

UW-Green Bay recruit Kelsey Justman led Wonewoc-Center with 35 kills.

This was Fall Rivers first ever trip to the WIAA State Girls Volleyball Tournament. Wonewoc-Center is making their 3rd straight trip to Green Bay and its the first time they have advanced to the title game.
