The Dodge County Master Gardener Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Moraine Park Technical College, Beaver Dam, WI. The program is free and open to gardeners of all levels of experience and skill. Participants will also become familiar with the Master Gardener program and meet others with gardening interests.
This month’s presentation is Exploring Invasive Species with Matt Wallrath. Invasive species expert Matt Wallrath will be joining us at the Horicon Marsh, N7725 WI28, Horicon, to teach about how Wisconsin regulates and manages invasive plants. We will be going out into the field to identify examples of native and invasive species. This is an outdoor, walking event, so participants should dress and plan accordingly. We will discuss state rules on invasive species, apps to help identify them, how to report invasives, and resources for monitoring and control.
Matt is an outreach specialist and coordinator with the Wisconsin First Detector Network (WIFDN). He works at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Renz Weed lab and has decades of experience with both field work and policy on these topics. He coordinates WIFDN, a statewide citizen science network that supports invasive species education and volunteer activities.
