6th Annual Gavin Rivas Strive Scholarship Benefit

Gavin Rivas was killed by an impaired driver on July 30, 2019. He was 22 years old. The family struggled to find a way to keep his memory alive and to give his short life lasting meaning. They decided a scholarship in his name was the right path. The Strive program had helped Gavin at Horicon High School so much that he became its top scholarship winner in his senior year. The Strive program pairs a student with a community mentor and works with the student to improve their grades and help with other personal issues. This program seemed a good place to establish a scholarship in his name.
In July 2020, the first benefit to gather funds for this scholarship was held in Horicon. Enough funds were collected to award the largest scholarship the program had ever had at Horicon High School in May of 2021. The Gavin Rivas Memorial Strive Scholarship has since applied for and received a 501(c) (3) charity designation with the IRS. Since July 2021, the annual benefit has been held at Riverbend Park in Horicon. In 2024 and again in 2025, not only was a Strive Scholarship awarded, but also a Merit Scholarship to a student whose future plans are to become a First Responder, which Gavin had hoped to become.
We are seeking contributions to the July 19, 2025 benefit at Riverbend Park in Horicon. The benefit consists of games, silent auctions, raffles, a bags tournament, with food and drink available for a small donation. 100% of money collected goes directly to the scholarship fund and donations made are tax deductible.
