Driver Arrested After Brief Highway 26 Chase in Fond du Lac County

(FOND DU LAC) A routine traffic stop late Sunday night turned into a short police chase on Highway 26 before ending without injuries or damage, according to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.

A sheriff’s deputy tried to pull over a southbound vehicle around 9:34 p.m. near County Highway T for speeding. Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated and took off, ignoring emergency lights and sirens as the vehicle continued south on Highway 26 and passed other traffic in a no-passing zone.

The chase lasted about three miles before the vehicle stopped on its own south of County Highway TC. Deputies carried out a high-risk traffic stop and took the driver into custody without incident. He was the only person in the vehicle.

Authorities say the driver is a 26-year-old man from Menasha. He is being held at the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding and reckless endangering safety.

The sheriff’s office reported no injuries and no property damage from the pursuit.
