(Poynette) A stretch of Highway 51 in Columbia County will be closed for several weeks starting Tuesday. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says the roadway between Highway 60 and Tomlinson Road in Poynette will be resurfaced and also see grading work, a new base aggregate, beam guards and pavement markings. Highway 51 will be open to local traffic, but all other traffic will be detoured onto highway 22 and 16. Construction work is ongoing for the Highway 51 bridge replacement over Rocky Run Creek, north of Poynette. Motorists are advised to slow down, be prepared to stop, and watch for flagging operations in the construction zone. Construction is currently scheduled for completion in October 2020, weather depending.
