(Juneau) Representatives of the Dodgeland School District recently joined Community Comment to discuss an upcoming operational referendum question. If approved by voters in the spring, the referendum will allow the district to exceed its revenue limit by $1.4-million-dollars annually for five years beginning in the 2025-2026 school year.
School officials say the funds will support essential operational expenses such as maintaining student-to-staff ratios, sustaining educational and co-curricular programs, enhancing student behavioral and mental health resources, and maintaining technology as well as cybersecurity infrastructure. Administrator Jessica Johnson says increases in inflation have led to funding challenges for the district. โฏ
โIf the state would have kept up with increases to match [Consumer Price Index] to match the inflationary index we would have an additional $1.5-million-dollars in revenue this year,โ says Johnson. โCurrently, weโre operating on a budget deficit of $650,000 so we would be in the opposite situation of where weโre at right now if the state kept up.โ
There are upcoming informational sessions open to the public. The next one is Monday, March 10th at the Clyman Village Hall beginning at 6pm. Another meeting is Tuesday, March 11th at the Reeseville Community Center at 6pm and the final session is at 6pm at the Dodgeland School Library on March 13th.โฏ
