Dodge County Treasurer Highlights Unclaimed Funds, Filing A Claim

(Juneau) The Dodge County treasurer is highlighting county unclaimed funds and how to file a claim if you have any. Kris Keith says unclaimed property exists for many reasons but usually Dodge Countyโ€™s unclaimed funds are from uncashed checks.

She adds that state statutes govern everything having to do with municipal and county unclaimed funds including procedures for holding unclaimed funds, notifying the public, and how to disburse this money. The treasurer notes that a common example of county unclaimed funds could be a real estate tax overpayment refund or a paycheck from jury duty that was never cashed.

Residents can check Dodge Countyโ€™s Unclaimed Funds lists on the Treasurerโ€™s Department webpage. There is also a link to the stateโ€™s Department of Revenue Unclaimed Property page. Keith says the stateโ€™s list and claim process is different from the countyโ€™s so be sure to read the instructions carefully.
