Dodge County Sheriff Reminding Livestock Owners To Secure Their Animals

(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is reminding livestock owners to properly secure them at all times. It is Sheriff Dale Schmidt’s September Law of the Month. Schmidt says when livestock is secured by a fence or a barn it will prevent the animals from wandering into the roadways. He says this will reduce the chances that livestock cause an accident. Owners are asked to make sure their fences are upright and do not have any holes and double check gates to make sure they are not open. According to state statute, no livestock shall run at large on a highway at any time expect to go from one farm parcel to another. If the owner or keeper knowingly permits livestock to run at large on a highway, and after notice by an officer fails to remove them, they may be fined up to $200.
