Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Warns Of Scam Phone Calls

(Juneau) Dodge County authorities are warning residents about an uptick in scam phone calls. These calls involve someone posing as a detective from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and using either a spoofed or restricted phone number. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says the best thing to do when receiving these calls is hang up the phone.

“It’s not worth it,” says Schmidt. “When I get these types of things I like to put [them] out there in the public, put [them] on our app, on our social media page so that people are aware that it’s going on.”

Schmidt says these calls can happen any day, at any time, to anyone. The sheriff notes that the first thing someone should do if they receive one of these calls is ask what agency the scammer is calling from.

“Then go on Google, look up their web page, and then call them,” Schmidt says. “And call and then ask for that person. The dispatcher [is] gonna tell you if it’s legit or not. Call from a source that you know is legit.”

Schmidt says when people look at the sheriff’s office website, they know it is legit.
