Dodge County Sheriff Talks New Crisis Responder Program

(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is starting up a new crisis’ responder program with help from Dodge County Health and Human Services. The program aims to bring in someone who will assist the department in cases where individuals may be dealing with mental health struggles. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says this time of year usually sees more people couped up indoors.

“We tend to see mental health type calls for service,” says Schmidt. “Whether that be mental health related or just your mental health disorders.”

Schmidt says those mental health disorders also include drug dependency. The sheriff says that this is something the department has never had.

“The individual we’re bringing in, that’s being trained, her name is Amy,” Schmidt says. “We’re going to have her in our office, right off of our lobby that individuals might be able to stop in and see her or be able to call her out to the scene.”

Schmidt says they hope to utilize Amy for emergency detention situations.
