Dodge County Sheriff Says Badger State Sheriffs’ Association Mailing Is Legit

(Juneau) Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says a mailing from the Badger State Sheriff’s Association is legitimate. Schmidt says the “Honorary Membership” mailing seeks support of citizens for sheriffs statewide.

“If you want to be an honorary member of that Sheriff’s Association you can just follow the instructions on that letter and it is not a scam,” says Schmidt. “It is so sad that I’ve got to call…there’s so many scams out there you got to be careful of. I got a number of people reach out to me and say they’re happy to support us.”

Those who follow those directions will receive an honorary membership card, a bumper sticker, as well as a newsletter. Schmidt says the Badger State Sheriff’s Association, which he is president of, represents every sheriff in Wisconsin.

“What our Association does is really supports the 72 sheriff’s in the state…and make sure legislation goes well and make sure we’re still able to protect everybody’s constitutional rights.”

Schmidt says they use the funds to improve the office of Sheriff across Wisconsin. He says the association provides training, legal representation, and lobbies for legislation that benefits residents and the constitutionality of the office of Sheriff.
