Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt Emphasizes Safe Driving As Winter Weather Approaches

(Dodge County) The season’s first winter weather advisory of the season was issued for today (Thursday) with a slushy, rain-snow mix in the forecast.

Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says that even if the snow isn’t sticking to the roads, you need to remember that pavement can become slick quickly.

“You don’t know when a wet roadway is going to freeze just like that and all of a sudden you have black ice.  Just slow down and drive safely.”  Schmidt said. “ Slowing down doesn’t mean in a 55 mile per hour zone, slowing down to 53.  It means significantly slow down, give yourself some more time.  Make sure you leave plenty of stopping time for vehicles around you and drive defensively. “

Schmidt says overpasses will develop slippery spots much faster than the roads. In Dodge County they always have issues on the Highway 151 overpass at County Road A.
