Dodge County Public Health Hosting Blood Drive

(Juneau) Officials with the Dodge County Public Health Department are encouraging the public to sign up for a blood drive next week. The event is in partnership with the American Red Cross. Laura McGuire is with the Red Cross Wisconsin Region.

“We cannot stockpile blood, it does have an expiration date…so it might seem like the Red Cross is always out there looking for blood, and that’s because there’s a constant need,” says McGuire. She adds that blood goes out the door every single day, and it comes in the door every single day.

Those interested can choose between a blood donation or a “power red” donation. Local health officials say it is similar to a whole blood donation, except a special machine is used to allow the donor to safely give two units of red blood cells during one donation while returning your plasma and platelets.

Donors who give in the month of March get a free A1C testing, which is commonly used to screen for prediabetes and diabetes. They are also eligible for a $10 Amazon gift card.

The drive is taking place on March 18th at the Human Services and Health Department located at 199 County Road DF in Juneau. It starts at 9am and goes until 3pm.
