(DODGE COUNTY) Dodge County Public Health has confirmed rabies among local wildlife. Officials say that a bat submitted for rabies testing following potential exposure to a dog has tested positive.
No human exposures have been identified at this time.
The public is recommended to keep their distance and never feed, handle, or approach wild animals. Health officials encourage citizens to make sure that their pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations and report exposures as soon as possible.
They add that if a bat is found indoors, assume possible contact unless proven otherwise and consult Dodge County Public Health. There is no cure for rabies once symptoms start.
