Dodge County Now At Low COVID Community Level Following New CDC Guidelines

(Juneau) Dodge County is now at a low COVID community level following updated guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC recently changed its recommended indicators for monitoring the impact of COVID on communities from community transmission to community levels. Each level is marked as low, medium, or high.

Dodge County is now in the low category which means masks are not recommended. Masks are suggested in public indoor settings when a community reaches high COVID level. Health officials say at all levels, people can wear a mask based on personal preference. Those with a positive test should wear a face covering.

Those who are immunocompromised or are at high risk for severe diseases are encouraged to talk with their healthcare provider about COVID prevention strategies. The CDC will use COVID community levels to inform the implementation of prevention efforts across the U.S. The new recommendations do not change current quarantine and isolation guidance.

Fond du Lac County is also at a low COVID community level. County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says it is exciting news and the change will be reflected on the county’s COVID dashboard. Public libraries in Waupun, Brandon, Campbellsport, Fond du Lac, and Oakfield have free N95 masks while supplies last. They are also available at the city-county government center in Fond du Lac.

Dodge County is inching closer to having half of its residents completely vaccinated against COVID. According to the state health department, 49.9-percent have received both doses of the vaccine while 52.4-percent have had at least one dose. The seven-day daily average of new cases in Dodge County is nine.
