Dodge County Health Department Highlighting Upcoming Program On Elder Abuse

(Juneau) Dodge County officials are highlighting an upcoming program on elder abuse. The Dodge County Human Services and Health Department in conjunction with PAVE, the Beaver Dam Police Department, and other community partners, are commemorating World Elder Abuse Awareness Day by hosting a community outreach event. The program will be held on June 15th at 111 East Burnett Street in Beaver Dam and will also feature a COVID vaccine clinic, treats, chair yoga, and door prizes. The Dodge County Human Services and Health Department say elder abuse is widespread. Every year an estimated one in 10 older Americans are victims of elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Research suggests that as few as one in 14 case of elder abuse come to the attention of authorities. In 2020, Dodge County Human Services Adult Protective Services Unit responded to a total of 289 cases of abuse and neglect of older adults and vulnerable adults-at-risk.
