(Juneau) Dodge County’s Emergency Management Director is moving on to a new job. Amy Haase was approved this week by the Fond du Lac County Board to be its next communications and emergency management director.
Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa was originally tabbed to take the dual role but he ended up staying with the city. Haase says she was interested in the position and applied once DeMaa had backed out.
With a background in emergency management and communications infrastructure, she says there are familiar aspects to the post but added that it will be a new challenge for her.
“The role of being in charge of central communications and dispatch will be new to me and I’m looking forward to the challenge,” says Haase. “I’m looking forward to meeting all of their great employees and collaborating and working with everyone in Fond du Lac County.”
Haase started as a secretary with Dodge County’s Emergency Management Department in 2006 and then moved up thru the ranks as deputy and was named director in 2014. She says she has enjoyed her time working for Dodge County.
“I appreciate all the municipalities and all the great citizens and great county employees in Dodge County and I will miss them all,” says Haase. “It’s been [a] great learning experience over the years and [a] great time working with everybody on emergencies, disasters, preparations…before all the emergencies we’ve had. It was a great experience.”
Fond du Lac County Executive Sam Kaufman says out of all the applicants, Haase came away as the candidate with the most to offer.
“She has years of experience in Dodge County as emergency management director, deputy director, and she has worked alongside the dispatch department that’s run by the sheriff’s department in Dodge County,” says Kaufman. “[Haase’s] very impressive and I really truly believe with her background, even in IT, that she is going to be a fantastic asset for Fond du Lac County.”
Haase’s last day with the county is November 28th and begins her new job on December 1st. Dodge County Board Chairman Dave Frohling says they plan to meet with both Haase and Emergency Management Deputy Director Joe Meagher to put a succession plan in place in the coming weeks.
