(MADISON) Drivers in Dodge County could start seeing smoother streets this year as state road money flows into local communities.
Cities across the county are receiving thousands of dollars in state transportation aid as part of a larger $117 million payment announced by Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
In Dodge County, the April payments include:
- Beaver Dam: about $328,200 in general transportation aids, plus $16,300 for connecting highways
- Waupun: about $133,400, plus $23,300 in connecting highway funds
- Mayville: about $79,900, plus nearly $7,900 in connecting highway funds
- Horicon: about $86,200, plus about $9,000 in connecting highway funds
- Juneau: about $57,300
- Fox Lake: about $47,300
The money helps cities pay for everyday road work โ things like resurfacing streets, fixing potholes, and maintaining state highways that run through town.
State leaders say the funding is part of a broader push to improve local infrastructure. The latest quarterly payment is one piece of more than $570 million local governments will receive this year through the stateโs General Transportation Aids program.
For people who live and work in Dodge County, that can mean safer roads, fewer car repairs, and easier commutes.
The state sends these payments four times a year, giving local governments flexibility to plan projects based on what their communities need most.
