(Town of Hubbard) Voters in Iron Ridge and the Town of Hubbard will see a contested race for Dodge County Board on their ballot Tuesday. We asked both candidates why they decided to run when they were our guests recently on WBEVโs Community Comment. Ross Purdy, who says his values are in line with the values of the citizens group Free In Dodge, says he decided to run because the county was considering giving the public health officer extra powers, among other reasons.
โHaving seen the county board in operation, there is a few other things that gave me alarm as far as how things run in Dodge County,โ Purdy says, โthe first things I saw, when citizens were expressing themselves to the county board, they appeared bored and uninterested, not really listening to the people that were speaking.โ
Incumbent Andrew Johnson, who covered the county board when he ran the Mayville newspaper, was appointed to fill the vacancy last June.
โDodge County is facing many significant challenges including water quality, changing county leadership, housing shortages, infrastructure issues, labor shortages, infrastructure issues and safety concerns related to the current conditions of the highways,โ Johnson says, โI maintain a conservative approach to taxation and aim to provide needed county services that offer excellent long-term value.โ
The Dodge County Boardโs Ninth District encompasses the village of Iron Ridge and wards one and two in the town of Hubbard. Both Purdy and Johnson are residents of Hubbard.
