Dodge County Authorities Respond To Several Fireworks Complaints Over The Weekend

(Juneau) Dodge County authorities fielded a number of calls complaining about fireworks over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Area agencies had around 40 calls which Sheriff Dale Schmidt says is about average. He says they get a lot of complaints every year and it is difficult but not impossible to follow up on each one.

Schmidt says it takes a bit of their resources as well as time to track down each complaint. He adds that it is illegal to shoot off fireworks that go up into the air unless permission is given by the local municipality.

Schmidt says by nature law enforcement gives a bit more leniency around July 4th but as the weeks progress and people are still firing off their aerial pyrotechnics, patience runs out and citations could be given out for disturbing the peace.

He says he did not hear any reports of lost fingers or any other serious injuries following the weekend festivities.
