(Juneau) The Dodge County administrator is retiring. Jim Mielke announced that he is stepping down from the post during the county board’s Executive Committee meeting Monday morning. Mielke says he has enjoyed serving as the county’s first appointed administrator. He says that the teamwork, collaboration, and support received has been greatly appreciated. Mielke notes he just turned 64 and it is time to move on to the next chapter.
Mielke was hired in 2008 after Dodge County switched to a county administrator form of government from administrative coordinator. County Board Chairman Russ Kottke thanked Mielke for his work over the past 13-and-a-half years. He says when Mielke was hired the county never expected him to stay in the position for so long because that is not the trend.
Mielke adds that the opportunity to work with so many dedicated and hardworking professionals to deliver high quality programs and services has been very rewarding. The administrator is responsible for directing the daily operations of the county’s $168-million-dollar budget, appoint and supervise the heads of all county departments, among many other tasks.
The Executive Committee will meet on March 15th to consider next steps. Kottke says they will discuss either hiring a third-party firm to lead the search for Mielke’s replacement or perhaps creating an ad hoc committee. Mielke’s last day on the job is June 1st.
