(Jefferson County) Another update was given as the state continues to deal with the highly pathogenic bird flu that was detected at a Jefferson County laying hen facility. Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection say depopulation efforts were completed Tuesday.
The DATCP has now begun compost disposal at a nearby site. Officials say composting is the safest and most effective way to handle large volumes of carcasses.
There is an Avian Influenza Response Line, 608-224-4902, that callers can leave their questions and concerns. Messages are checked daily from 7am to 7pm.
