(Beaver Dam) The Dodge County Center for the Arts plays host to a dementia program on the third Thursday of every month. The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Dodge Countyโs SPARK! Program gives those with dementia and their caregivers an opportunity to enjoy art, culture, and nature in a comfortable setting.
SPARK! is held four times a month at four different locations throughout Dodge County. Dementia Care Specialist Rob Griesel (grissel) says this program is not always about art making.
โSometimes itโs looking at piece of art and having a discussion,โ Griesel says. โYou know, sometimes itโs making something, sometimes itโs, you know, thereโs a theme to it that itโs building off of.โ
Griesel says that the programs are different each month. He adds that these sessions are more of a participation at your level.
โIf you wanna come and you donโt wanna do whatever the project is or you donโt wanna talk about it, youโre still invited to be there,โ says Griesel. โSometimes just showing up is participating, and thatโs a huge thing sometimes just getting out of the house.โ
The next SPARK! Session at the Dodge County Center for the Arts, located at 130 West Maple in Beaver Dam, is July 20th from 1pm to 2:30pm. To register, call the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Dodge County at 920-386-3580 or email [email protected].
There are three additional SPARK! Programs in Dodge County including on the first Monday of each month at Imagine That Art Studio in Waupun; the third Monday of each month at Horicon Marsh Education and Visitors Center, and every second Friday of each month at Unmasked Expressive Therapies in Beaver Dam.
