DCSO Reminds Motorists To Replace Fading License Plates

(Juneau) Dodge County authorities note that license plate numbers tend to peel and fade over time. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says when it happens, people need to get their plates replaced.

“You can’t get a Sharpie out and color it in, can’t get your nail polish and color in with that,” says Schmidt. “That doesn’t meet the requirements of the license plates. Actually, it’s not that expensive to do.”

Schmidt says that it costs around seven or eight dollars and can be done at the DMV. The sheriff adds that it is a requirement.

“If you can’t read them. It’s a violation of the law,” says Schmidt. “You can be stopped for that, and so, we need people to get those replaced. It’s unfortunate that the license plates in that batch really started to really disintegrate the way that they did.”

Schmidt notes that there are better license plates available today that do not peel or fade as quickly.
