(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is reminding motorists about the dangers of wrong-way driving. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says the department has been seeing multiple causes for wrong-way driving incidents.
“We’re seeing people that are elderly that are confused that think they are getting on their right spot and they’re not,” says Schmidt. “We had one of the crashes last year where we had fatalities out of it where the individual was following his GPS and took that, the GPS led him astray. So, you got to be paying attention.”
Schmidt says he has been trying to think of different ways to reduce these incidents, including an idea to paint giant arrows on the highway.
“I had an idea, gave it to Brian Field here this last week, our highway commissioner and said, ‘Can we paint some big arrows on these on and off ramps of which way they can go?” Schmidt says. “And he can’t do that [because] these are state and US highways.”
The sheriff says Field has spoken to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation about the idea.
