Crews Battle Cold Temperatures At Lomira Silo Fire

(Lomira) Firefighters battled a silo fire in freezing cold temperatures on Sunday morning. Crews responded to W2086 Elm Drive in the Town of Lomira at 7:24am and arrived to find smoke coming from the top of the structure. Knowles Fire Chief Jason Kuehl says the smoldering haylage, 30-feet deep, was attacked from the top using a bucket truck. Because of the temperatures, personnel had to rotate out every 15-minutes; Mayville EMS was on scene to help. There were no injuries. “Everything was freezing,” Kuehl says. Over 26-thousand gallons of water were used. Personnel were on scene for around three-and-a-half hours. Knowles received mutual assistance from fire departments in Brownsville, Lomira, Mayville, Kekoskee, Oakfield and Theresa along with the Dodge County Emergency Response Team for traffic control.
