(Juneau) With the extreme heat forecasted for the next two days, Dodge County Public Health is offering some safety tips. Health officials say young children, seniors, and those with chronic medical conditions have the most difficulty regulating their body temperature and should be watched closely during high temperature days.
Heat-related illnesses happen when the bodyโs temperature control system becomes strained.
Under normal circumstances, the body cools itself by sweating; however, there are several factors that can affect that. They include high humidity, age, fever, dehydration, heart disease, poor circulation, and sunburn.
General symptoms of heat exhaustion include fainting, rash, fatigue, and nausea. Health officials say if you or someone you know begins experiencing symptoms of dizziness, weakness, and fatigue โ steps should be taken to cool the body down.
Other tips officials recommend include drinking plenty of cool fluids, especially water, and increase your electrolyte intake.
