(BEAVER DAM) Work on Beaver Dam’s new middle school is moving steadily forward, with crews making strong progress on footings and foundations despite a challenging winter.
Superintendent Mark DiStefano says snowfall and fluctuating temperatures have caused little disruption, allowing construction to stay on schedule. The district’s goal is to complete foundation work before spring so the building can begin rising, with time for the concrete to properly settle. He says crews are following additional testing protocols to ensure the foundation and soil are solid, including pressure testing and multiple rounds of concrete testing.
The district is also adding a new way for the public to track progress. Monthly drone flyovers will show construction from above, with videos and project updates posted to the district’s facilities webpage. The first drone footage is expected to be available within the week.
Behind the scenes, officials continue reviewing and awarding construction bids. Major work such as excavation, concrete, electrical, plumbing and HVAC has already been approved, with interior bids now under review. DiStefano says bids remain competitive and within budget, with an emphasis on using as much local labor as possible.
The new middle school, approved by voters through a $107 million referendum, is expected to be completed by the summer of 2027.
