Columbus Man Arrested For Eighth OWI Offense

(Columbus) A Columbus man was arrested Sunday for his Eighth Offense Operating While Intoxicated. Police Chief Dennis Weiner says an officer stopped a vehicle traveling 25-miles-per-hour over the posted speed limit in a residential area.

When the officer made contact with the driver, reportedly identified as John Roussel, an odor of intoxicants was noted as he spoke and his speech was slurred. A glass bottle was allegedly observed to be on the front passenger seat. Roussel was put through Field Sobriety Testing and was subsequently arrested.

The 49-year-old reportedly verbally and physically resisted police, and tried to bite officers. He was booked into the Columbia County Jail for 8th OWI and Resisting.
