Columbus Man Arrested By State Patrol On 5th OWI Offense Charge

(Columbus) A Columbus man was arrested for his Fifth Offense Operating While under the Influence. A Wisconsin State Patrol trooper attempted a vehicle stop for speeding on Interstate 94 near County Highway N on Tuesday.

According to the state patrol, the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated. The driver then attempted to flee on foot, resulting in a short foot pursuit with law enforcement.

That ended when the driver, reportedly identified as Joshua Kooiman, was tased by a trooper after failing to comply with verbal commands and resisting arrest.

The 36-year-old was given medical attention and was transported by Lake Mills Fire Department. The state patrol says an OWI investigation is ongoing.ย ย
