Columbus Football Team Ready For Another Strong Season

The Columbus High School football team looks to land on top of the Capitol Conference standings again in 2025.   The Cardinals ran the table in the regular season and blew threw the first two rounds of the postseason before falling to Aquinas 29-28 in the Division Four Sectional Final.

Head Coach Andy Ryan tells ESPN Beaver Dam that his squad returns about eight starters on each side of the ball.    They will need to fill a big hold at running back as Conner Roche and his 2257 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns has graduated.  Owen Cowell (2nd team All-Capitol pick and an Honorable Mention pick on Special Teams) ran for 555 yards and 11 TDs last season, while Bobby Tracy and Garrett Hodge will also see carries.

Peyton Powers returns as a three year starter. He threw for 991 yards and ran for 549 yards as a junior. That included 18 total TDs.  On the outside Jordan Mobry returns as last years’ leading receiver, catching 17 passes for 353 yards and 7 TD.  He was a first team All-Capitol pick at wide receiver and defensive back.

Wyatt Graffin returns as a first team Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-State pick on both offensive and defensive line.  He was also the Capitol Conference Offensive Lineman, Defensive Lineman and Defensive Player of the Year.

The Cardinals open up their season on Friday, August 22nd when they host Greenfield in a non-conference matchup.
